Don’t Get Lured By Bright, Shiny Objects
Pay attention to substance, not swagger.
Pause before jumping on a bandwagon.
Cult-mentality seems to be rampant and doing damage to our mental, emotional & spiritual health, and society.
Beware of anyone dictating what you SHOULD think, believe, do, or follow.
There’s a difference between leaders & teachers offering tools to be your own leader & listen to your inner wisdom vs those who claim they can solve your problems & ease your pain.
Anyone claiming they can save you or rescue you, explicitly or subtly, walk away.
Maybe you need support but, you don’t need saving or rescuing.
Don’t take my word for it. Trust your inner teacher & the answers within you.
Beware of wolves disguised as sheep.

I was inspired by this wisdom written by fellow yoga teacher, Patty Ivey. I found her words to be a litmus test to discern between genuine vs. performative guides. Let me know what you think!

“I used to fall for schmoozers.
The ones who know how to work a room.
We’ve all met one.
Energy just sweet enough to pass for a “sweet talker”.
They schmooze.
They charm.
They fool.
They say they’re not chasing celebrity, yet all the while they are quietly measuring their worth in likes, follows, and applause.
They preach “love” until someone challenges their belief system, then the mask quickly slips.
This isn’t love.
It is performance.
It’s self-promotion dressed up as virtue.
Yet, far too many still fall for it—distracted by the smile, convinced by the polished words, unable to see the insincerity beneath the facade.
They keep entire crowds asleep, clapping for the very performance that robs them of their own self-respect.
All for the sake of wanting to be loved themselves.
Remember-
Charisma is not character.
Do not confuse the two.
Look past their words.
Watch the actions.
Listen to what’s not being said.
Look a bit deeper.
The truth is always right there, waiting to be revealed.”
