Posted @withregram • @teamaureus In the name of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breanna Taylor and all of the black lives lost, we marched loudly to protest against racism, injustice, and police brutality! My girls were ADAMANT about taking action. It was a peaceful and organized protest where the mayor and some amazing speakers in our community talked about solidarity and the work that needs to be done in our city. The Dublin Police Department did a gracious job of escorting the march into a busy intersection where we took a knee for 8 minutes and 40 seconds to honor the victims. #blacklivesmatterBefore my breakfast or morning matcha or any news, I brought my stiff neck, sore left shoulder, and cautious heart to my mat. I literally practiced in the sun to invite the light and the tapas (inner fire) of my practice to clear out worry and concerns. My practice calms and grounds me. I'm grateful to reset and recharge, ready for whatever this day brings, as a peaceful, powerful warrior with the courage to speak and take action for peace and love. In my backyard, colors seemed to emerge overnight, including bright magenta flowers on a bougainvillea I thought was completely dead. I saw an explosion of hydrangea flowers which weren't there yesterday, next to my humble #coronagarden I planted from seed when shelter in place began a few months ago. Our pup brought in cherries from a mysterious source. My hubby discovered a cherry plum tree which in the 6 years we've lived here had not been fruit-bearing. We harvested an abundance of lemons from our tree, one as big as a small pumpkin. And, when I remembered to look up, the sunset sky was painted the warm, bold colors of faith, hope & love. #dwellinhope #grateful #lookup . . Why keep the faith and hope during bleak times of despair and violence? Because it's in our nature to survive and preserve our humanity. Hope energizes us to attend to what matters, to spark others to keep going and to thrive. . I recently asked my husband to toss that dead bougainvillea plant. Without leaves or buds, it seemed to eek out a flower asking "Please don't give up on me, don't throw me away. I might look dead but, I want to bloom and live." It inspired me to consider that my judgment of something or someone unworthy could be flawed. That miraculous flower invited me not to give up on my fellow brothers and sisters, not to view anyone or anything as worthless trash, including how I view myself. My #dharma is to see the light, vitality and love in ALL beings, and to offer compassion and inspiration to discover the light and love within. . But, what about "When it's over, leave. Don't continue watering a dead flower." But, is the flower really dead? #getcuriousnotfurious . My takeaway? To be careful and slow to judge if something is alive or worth my attention and energy. The words I heard were "spiritual triage." To be an instrument of #peace, equipped with #discernment and #compassion. This is what I contemplated during my #meditation. A protest, as inspired by Martin Luther King, Jr., has a purpose...the riots happening now are chaotic, not purposeful. This does not resemble the peaceful protests MLK Jr. would inspire to take a stand for civil rights. What happened to George Floyd is horrific and unacceptable and, these violent riots are not the answer. Google "Atlanta Mayor Keisha" to see the entire footage of her plea to "Go Home", stay safe, don't buy into the chaos, and remember "you are better than this...our country is better than this." #prayforourcountry #godhelpus #martinlutherkingjr #blacklivesmatter . . ✌🏽❣️"In spite of temporary victories, violence never brings permanent peace.” "Nonviolence is a powerful and just weapon, which cuts without wounding and ennobles the man who wields it. It is a sword that heals.” 🙏🏽"Being Black in America should not be a death sentence." Knowing another black man was unjustly killed by police brutality, pinned by the full weight of a white policeman's knee on George Floyd's neck yesterday in Minneapolis, is beyond sickening. In his final moments he was pleading with the officer "I can't breathe, officer." 😢 . . Does this news make you uncomfortable? Honestly, I'd rather focus on sunsets and hummingbirds, but, my slight discomfort is nothing compared to the fatal knee #GeorgeFloyd endured. #ripgeorgefloyd . Please don't turn a blind eye. Awaken your #compassion and #empathy and ask yourself what can you do to stop these violent acts? Whether it's physically attacking african-americans or bullying asians with racist letters, hate crimes are a call for a cultural revolution. The kids are not alright, all is not well with the world, an epidemic of hatred has too many of our brothers and sisters living in fear and grief. #imsorry . . I could easily turn the channel to #positivevibesonly and turn my back on another senseless act of violence, but, that doesn't make the hatred go away, or bring the dead back to life. . . I pray for healing for the families of the attacked, and even for a change of heart of the offenders. Mostly I pray for clarity of action, to raise awareness, to STOP THE VIOLENCE. I choose peaceful action but, not non-action. . . @justinbieber and @oprahmagazine posted to #STOPTHEVIOLENCE . I know @chrisccuomo will report it soon...he's still following up on the #ahmedaubrey case. @gayleking said it feels like "open season" where black people are being hunted down. This is NOT okay. . . What is my #dharma, my being of service, in the presence of racism and violence? To acknowledge the hate as opposed to ignore it because it makes me feel uncomfortabIe. To look for the good in all, and steer clear of divisive generalizations (not all white police are racist). To speak out against violence. To stand for the oppressed.
