PRESENCE (week one) “40 Days to Personal Revolution” by Baron Baptiste

One of the best decisions I ever made in my life was embarking on my Baptiste yoga journey. And, one of the most impactful Baptiste programs and books is “40 Days to Personal Revolution – to Radically Change Your Body and Awaken the Sacred Within Your Soul by Baron Baptiste.

I am on an amazing team of teachers leading this 40 Days program through Baptiste Power Yoga San Francisco and am offering support and commitment to the daily yoga and meditation practice by publishing weekly episodes aligned with the weekly theme and focus points.

Week One theme: PRESENCE.

And, the first two laws are:

  • Law One: Seek the Truth
  • Law Two: Be Willing to Come Apart

Here are the iTunes podcast links to a meditation and yoga class you can use during Week One of your 40 days program, or even if you’re not following the 40 days book! First preference is to get yourself to a class AND for times when that’s not possible, these episodes are for you! Creating a “no excuses!” option to support your commitment to a daily practice! Of course, remember one day of rest every week from yoga! Meditation every day, asana practice 6 days/week.

January 13 – Part 1

Discover the proper alignment, breath (pranayama), and core engagement (bandhas) of basic vinyasa postures to:

  1. empower your vinyasa practice
  2. prevent injury and
  3. enable strength, mobility and lift-off in arm balances and inversions.

February 17 – Part 2

Prerequisite: Consistent vinyasa practice (at least one month of practice, 3x/week) or completion of January 13th Part 1 Vinyasa Fundamentals workshop.

Intro to arm balances, chaturanga shoot backs, and inversions applying the proper alignment, breath (pranayama), strength, and core engagement (bandhas) learned in Part 1 of our Vinyasa workshop series.

SPIDER POSE…IS IT A “REAL YOGA” POSE?

IMG_0804Variations of Goddess Pose, utkata konasana, are sometimes called Spider Pose…but, is there a sanskrit name? I don’t know and to me it doesn’t matter. Does it feel good in my body? Does it invite strength, vitality, clarity, calm and connection to self? That’s what matters to me. It’s funny how yogis can sometimes get judgy, criticizing others because something is not “real yoga.” It makes me ask “Is criticism or judgment of others’ practices ‘real yoga’? Is it only yoga if it’s taught in sanskrit? Or if you chant or burn incense?

I know what works for me and I remind my students that ultimately each one of us is our own inner teacher. If you don’t agree with another’s practice, why not just lift them up by letting them be, and you do you? Words I need to hear myself to keep my judginess in check.

These words by Tara Brach often remind me to practice compassion. This is my intention for you when I teach and for everyone.
